Dylan Thomas Memorial Wreath Laying
On a very busy day at Westminster Abbey friends and family of the Dylan Thomas Society lay the wreath on his great grandfather's memorial stone at Poet's Corner.
The brilliant Dylan Thomas Sound Project provided stunning and moving performance of some of Dylan's works in a musical medium. The Society members then retired to the Wheatsheaf in Fitzrovia where Dylan first met his wife to be Caitlin Macnamara in 1936 and where Guy Masterson (nephew of the late Richard Burton) once again wowed all gathered with superb performances of the late bard's works. Once again it was another memorable occasion continuing the tradition that was started way back in 1982 when the memorial stone was first unveiled. Photos come courtesy of Andrew Dally. |

Acclaimed actor Adrian Metcalfe took members on an afternoon of rich storytelling and frothy ale (he didn't pay) His dynamic Dylan walking tour was based around pubs and places based on the writings of the poet. It was a bright afternoon spent in wonderful company as extracts from 'Return Journey,' 'Old Garbo,' and others were magnificently brought to life on the streets of Dylan's famed 'Ugly, lovey town.' A funny and fond recollection of one of Swansea's most famous sons and his home-town and all of its characters.

The Copper Jack tour of the River Tawe and talk by Prof. Huw Bowen
We enjoyed glorious Swansea sunshine as we chugged at 4mph up a river which some on board compared to the Rhine or the Danube. This is a testimony to the transformation of the Industrial dereliction which began with the Swansea University led Lower Swansea Valley Project in the sixties.
The party took in the splendour and rich industrial history of Swansea on the leisurely journey along the River Tawe from the Waterfront Museum to the Liberty Stadium. Our guest speaker Prof. Huw Bowen, who is Professor of Public History at Swansea University, is spearheading the latest project Cu@Swansea. It is a regeneration project in partnership with City and County of Swansea and his informative and entertaining talk gave an insight into 'Copperopolis' and the regeneration at the Hafod Morfa Copperworks which is destined to become a major tourist attraction. |
